  1. AUTODESK SHIPS AutoCAD RELEASE 12 FOR DECstation/ULTRIX

  3. Sausalito, CA - December 14, 1992 - Autodesk, the leading desktop CAD
  4. software company, announced today that AutoCAD Release 12 is now available
  5. for customers running ULTRIX (version 4.3 or higher) on RISC-based DECstation
  6. hardware. ULTRIX, Digital Equipment Corporation's implementation of UNIX,
  7. provides DEC customers a competitive open-systems alternative with strong
  8. multitasking, connectivity, and interoperability characteristics. AutoCAD
  9. Release 12 offers fast performance, a flexible graphical user interface, and
  10. a comprehensive set of new and enhanced drawing, rendering, plotting, and
  11. data security and exchange functions. An SQL interface to commercial database
  12. management systems and a 2D Region Modeler are also new in Release 12.

  14. In the United States, Canada, and Latin America, the English-language version
  15. of AutoCAD Release 12 for DECstation/ULTRIX can now be obtained through
  16. Authorized Autodesk Dealers and Distributors.

  18. AutoCAD is fully supported on the DECstation 3100 and DECstation 5000 series
  19. (includes Personal DECstation, and DECstation 100 and 200 series). Currently,
  20. over 175 AutoCAD applications have been developed and are being marketed for
  21. this platform.

  23. "Platforms like the DECstation--specifically designed for compute-intensive
  24. applications--are critical to the rapid growth of technical workstation-based
  25. CAD, which is a key factor in our strategy for the future," said Len Rand,
  26. vice president of Autodesk's Design Automation Group. "AutoCAD is already the
  27. bestselling CAD package on the DECstation and with this version of Release 12
  28. we are making it possible for DECstation customers to continue to invest in
  29. this technology. Customers looking for the flexibility of an open computing
  30. environment while positioning themselves for future growth will be well-served
  31. by this product."

  34. its Release 12 software on Digital's DECstation platforms with a particular
  35. significance," said Mike Mancuso, group manager of Digital's Independent
  36. Software Vendor Program. "The combination provides our mutual customers with
  37. a powerful tool for their CAD requirements, as well as the investment
  38. protection benefits inherent in an open, growth-oriented computing
  39. environment."

  41. All basic AutoCAD Release 12 features are supported in this new version of
  42. AutoCAD, including the AutoCAD Development System (ADS) and AutoLISP, AutoCAD
  43. Device Interface, null display capabilities, and 8-bit font support. Also
  44. shipped with AutoCAD Release 12 is Advanced Modeling Extension (AME) Release
  45. 2.1, which requires a separate authorization code to be activated. A bonus
  46. CD-ROM containing hundreds of files--AutoLISP and ADS routines, utilities,
  47. fonts, toolkits, tutorials, and more--is also included.
